away support today...
|
First away game I have been to in a while.
At half time a large section of the upper tier West Ham disappeared, leaving a big block of empty seats in the middle of our section for the second half.
Caused a lot of amusement to all the Tottenham around me.
Who on earth leaves at half time when it's only 2-0?
Halfway through the second half at 3-0 you could see an even larger number of our fans heading for the exits.
With twenty minutes to go we had lost maybe half of our support.
Don't like to see that kind of thing, especially at away games. We're there to support the club through thick and thin.
Some people need to take a look at themselves.

Gale, no lack of moral fibre then, we stood and took it on the chin.
Besides which our coach was not leaving until an hour after the game.

If the Nottingham Forest semi final 1991 was nowadays half the stand would've been empty by half time

Cantwell is the best left back the club has had to date.

You can comment all you like, however I don't believe someone that sits in the home end at an away game and goes to support the team once in a blue moon has much right to judge people that go week in week out that decide they have had enough of a poor performance at 3-0 down.
What support did you actually show? NONE

It was very similar to Valentines Day at The Hawthorns.
You just KNEW they weren't going to perform

So I have no right to comment because I don't get to many away games?
I've been West Ham all my life. My dad has been West Ham all his life and idolised Noel Cantwell. I am a former season ticker holder. My two sons were in the junior Hammers before they could walk and are both massive Hammers fans today.
If someone like me doesn't meet the criteria for being a proper fan then we are into a level of puritanism that beggars belief.
West Ham fans come in all shapes and sizes. Some go to games, others don't. We are all West Ham.
And deep down every single person on this site knows that they get a huge sense of pride in their club when they see a thread about how incredible our away fans were, singing until the last minute. It makes you proud to be West Ham.
I have no issue with people leaving to beat the rush before the final whistle but leaving at half time when it's 2-0? That's not West Ham. Why even bother going to the game ffs?

Eric Hitchmoe 2:58 Mon Nov 23 Re: away support today... I cannot for one moment understand why a WHU fan would sit amongst the Spurs fans. If that was my only option I would choose to stay in and watch it on the tele.
I did in 2001, sol Campbell got the winner. I got a jab in the back and 'have that you little cunt'. I was 15, never again as it's not enjoyable.

I was one of many leaving at 3-0. Do you really want to sit and listen to them rub it in that your 3-0 down going on to be 4-0. No thanks

Done my time following the club home and away and found I rarely left early at away games, as when you're up north with a set train there wasn't any point.
Yesterday though, I would have probably left when the third went in. Nothing to do with the score as sometimes you're 3-0 down and it's harsh and the players are earning your support, but yesterday was pathetic by pretty much every single player.

Watched on line in the evening "As Live" on Full Matches and Shows, without knowing the score.
When the third went in I went from "As Live" to short Highlights only which is basically just the goals.
Does that count? Am I bad?
